Movie Report : May 2011

Hey there, fellow bloggers and readers, or just blogwalkers. It's been a while since my last post. I have been busy migrating this blog to a new domain. It's still a little unfinished, but most of it is there. I have installed the feedburner, if you want to subscribe early.

This month I posted my 68 most influential movies, which is a very tough post for me (not only the content, but blogger have 'accidentally' deleted some of my list! So I have to write half parts of it).

Let's focus to this movie report. May have been a bit colorful for the selection of movies. There's the classic and there's science-fiction. And there's a romance for sure.

Flipped (2010)
Flipped is a winner. I love seeing innocent thoughts from a young mind. Read the full review.

Don't Go Breaking My Heart (2011)
In the middle of seeing the fight of two guys, I had a convincing thought on what gets through a relationship. So convincing I decided to put this on my 68 most influential movies. If I could give a romance rate for this movie, I'd be giving 15 out of 10! Not a choice for a guy to see, but girls hang on your seats before you get high on the lovesick :)

Somewhere (2010)
Not really a winner for me. Although I love Phoenix's score on 'Love Like A Sunset Part 2', the rest of it is not a typical authentic movie for me.
Rating : 3,5 Stars

Source Code (2011)
I love how sentimental element mixed on science-fiction movies. Like this movie's question : "What would you do if you know your life ends in 8 minutes?" There were the best scene for me that I thought should be the last scene for the movie, but it is not. I guess there will be a sequel given the ending.
Rating : 3 Stars

No Strings Attached (2010)
I'm with everybody when I say that 'What is Natalie Portman doing in this movie?' But her qualities for being a smart easy going girl is great. One question for me is, why is Natalie so tan when all her work is in the hospitals and only have 5 minutes to lunch? Ashton is cute, but he's not really a compatible partner for Portman. They should just find two leading characters with better chemistry.
Rating : 2 Stars

Gone With The Wind (1939)

"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!" and some other memorable quotes from this movie are dazzling. This is far most the longest movie I have ever seen. 3 hours and 48 minutes, I have to divide the time to watch into two days. Movies like this making me, or the viewers feel like a part of giant history. And I am amazed on how a pretty spoiled little princess survived in a war and protect her whole family.
Rating : 4,5 Stars

Limitless (2011)
I've been craving to watch this. I'm so glad that it finally hit the theaters. I love the effects and how it picturing how vulnerable of human to take shortcuts for a better version of themselves. Review soon.

Sabrina (1954)
Audrey Hepburn is definitely a leading lady. A lady wears a fashionable outfit, but the best outfit is the attitude. Classic movies like this are classy, fine lines and impressions, choreographed acts but sometimes a bit boring. Might have been because in those days there weren't much effects like now. But overall this is a fine romantic movie.
Rating : 4 Stars

Mamma Mia! (2008)

I haven't planned to watch this. The truth is one of the reason I kept watching this through the night besides seeing Colin Firth, is the amazing landscape of Santorini, Greece. This movie have lots of breathtaking views of the place. It deserve its own appreciation for making musical with ABBA songs and it gives its own credit for seeing Meryl Streep dancing like a teenager. Though I wonder, they all seem to be always happy even if there's a cloud on their mind.

A good mix of old and new you've been watching lately.

I really enjoyed Limitless, and also plan to review soon, how many stars do you give it?

If you like Audrey Hepburn, there are a few others classics to discover, Breakfast at Tiffany's is her most famous role, I believe.
