Actresses (2009)

Six korean actresses get together for a photoshoot a day before Christmas. Actresses was made without a script, the director made the basis of the conflict and the actresses took it from there. Six actresses—Yoon Yeo-jeong, Lee Mi-sook, Ko Hyeon-jeong, Choi Ji-woo, Kim Min-hee and Kim Ok-bin, each portraying themselves. The director, E J-Yong said he wants to portray the charming real life of actresses. It was a feature film at the 2010 San Diego Asian Film Festival.

With different generations and work experience, the actresses mixture create a honest situation with just playing as themselves. The most intense situation was a fight between Ko Hyun-jung and Choi Ji-woo. Choi said that she was jealous of her pretty look and Ko seems to be pretty sensitive with high ego actress.

I thought they were charming and smart. I saw them basicly a human. Aside from their perfect image, they show their weaknesses. There were envy feelings toward each other, body and looks comparison as the result of not used to sharing the limelight. But I find each of them has its own beauty and charm. They seem unafraid to be themselves, except for Kim Ok-bin, who looked insecure at first. I thought there must be a little set-up. If there were no conflicts, what's to sell about? I wondered if they were real or not, in most of the early part of the movie.

I liked when they talked about divorce and revealed their fragile side. The bitter truth about being an actress and the pressure to be perfect were an issue to talk. But the scene where they all dine together were too long. I also thought the movie is great alone without the Christmas Eve moment.

It was a treat for the eye looking beautiful korean actress in the photoshoot. Since I like photography, I love seeing the process of photo-making and I like the photo results. If you are looking something different, somewhere between truth and fantasy, something smart and funny, this movie is your pick.

I'd love to this movie. We don't get to see many Asian movies in Europe.
These women are beautiful in addition with everything.
