Best Of Times (2009)

Here is the movie that Thai people proud of. At least that is what I thought by seeing so much awards for this movie. It was the Thailand official submission for Oscar.

Best Of Times is adding another bright color for movies in 2009.  After watching several comedy and cutesy Thai movies, this movie have a higher level to look for.

It's a story about Keng, a vet who couldn't help not thinking his first love, Fai. Fai involved in a relationship since highschool with Keng's bestfriend and got married, but ended in divorce. Keng met this two charming elder couple, Sompit and Jamrus in computer class, where he worked as a teacher, as part of his social service. Sompit and Jamrus have a lovely relationship but Sompit doubts her son would approve her relationship with Jamrus.

Hello Stranger (2010) >> Fashion and Locations

So many movies sometimes took advantage of overseas locations but did not explore it so well. But traveling movies are a big bonus if the story is great as well. Hello Stranger is no exception.  It tells two people for the first time traveling in South Korea during Songkran Festival. They both have adorable characters, great street style for wardrobe with beautiful scenes behind. I like learning new cultures, so those traditional food in the street and other details are interesting to me. In the mean time, this is some of the stills with some of the places in South Korea.

Bangkok Traffic Love Story (2009)

From the titles you probably guessed that it's a romantic comedy and it's a favorite for females. Well, you are right. Honestly, despite it's predictable plot its got that x factor that made me love it anyway.
 
Bangkok Traffic love Story was directed by Adisorn Tresirikasem and written by Navapol Thamrongruttanarit. The film tells the story of Mei Li (Sirin Horwang), a thirty-year-old woman feeling desperate about being last among her friends yet to marry, and her relationship with Loong (Theeradej Wongpuapan), an engineer working on the BTS Skytrain system. 

The skytrain, which celebrated its tenth anniversary the same year and lends its name to film's Thai and English titles, is prominently featured throughout the story.

Although the film was criticized for its loose plot, critics also noted the contemporary setting with which the audience, especially young middle-class female Bangkokians, could identify. The film was extremely successful, earning 57 million baht on its opening weekend and over 140 million baht after four weeks, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year so far. (wikipedia)

Crazy Little Thing Called Love (2010)

Okay, I know when you take a look at the poster it seems like a usual ordinary teenager love movies. I am not going to lie, because yes it is. But I am not here to shoot them down because there is some values I see in this movie, despite its regularity.

I don't think I ever, as I recall watch any romantic Thai movies. But I watched this and I loved the cinematography. It's clean and sharp. The cast are great, except maybe the leading actor who as described could only look pretty. It was helped a lot by having Nam (Pimchanok Lerwisetpibol), the leading actress, who transformed like an ugly duckling to a beautiful girl and the silly English Teacher, Inn (Sudarat Budtporm).

Summary : The life of Nam, an ordinary girl as a freshman in her school who secretly had a crush with her senior high school mate. The story surround itself with her friendship with her childhood friends and the opponent on impressing her crush.

Actresses (2009)

Six korean actresses get together for a photoshoot a day before Christmas. Actresses was made without a script, the director made the basis of the conflict and the actresses took it from there. Six actresses—Yoon Yeo-jeong, Lee Mi-sook, Ko Hyeon-jeong, Choi Ji-woo, Kim Min-hee and Kim Ok-bin, each portraying themselves. The director, E J-Yong said he wants to portray the charming real life of actresses. It was a feature film at the 2010 San Diego Asian Film Festival.

With different generations and work experience, the actresses mixture create a honest situation with just playing as themselves. The most intense situation was a fight between Ko Hyun-jung and Choi Ji-woo. Choi said that she was jealous of her pretty look and Ko seems to be pretty sensitive with high ego actress.

TAIPEI EXCHANGES (2010)

I am writing this review very excited. I finally found an Asian movie worth reviewed here! Not that there's no movie from Asian is good, but I just haven't found the Asian movie references yet.

Several days ago I found a web for Asian festival movies and write some of the movie titles to look for. But, I don't know if Taipei Exchanges is there. I just look at the movie's cover and decided to watch it.

The movie tells a story about a girl named Doris who starts to own a coffee shop in Taipei, where she runs it with her younger-tomboy sister, Joise. On the opening day of the coffee shop, her car crash a flower truck. Instead of cash compensation for the damage to her vehicle, the lady is offered the van's load of calla lilies.
