Movie Report : May 2011

Hey there, fellow bloggers and readers, or just blogwalkers. It's been a while since my last post. I have been busy migrating this blog to a new domain. It's still a little unfinished, but most of it is there. I have installed the feedburner, if you want to subscribe early.

This month I posted my 68 most influential movies, which is a very tough post for me (not only the content, but blogger have 'accidentally' deleted some of my list! So I have to write half parts of it).

Let's focus to this movie report. May have been a bit colorful for the selection of movies. There's the classic and there's science-fiction. And there's a romance for sure.

Flipped (2010)
Flipped is a winner. I love seeing innocent thoughts from a young mind. Read the full review.

Don't Go Breaking My Heart (2011)
In the middle of seeing the fight of two guys, I had a convincing thought on what gets through a relationship. So convincing I decided to put this on my 68 most influential movies. If I could give a romance rate for this movie, I'd be giving 15 out of 10! Not a choice for a guy to see, but girls hang on your seats before you get high on the lovesick :)

Movie Report : April 2011

I actually did not realize that it is already May until couple hours ago. So, sorry for posting this report a bit late. This month is dominated with Thailand movies. I guess they've been my escape for actually waiting several movies in theaters. Some of them are really good. So let's start.

Paris Express / Coursier (2011)
This french movie offers action and comedy. It is entertaining but the story's a little bit complicated.
Rating : 2 Stars

Bangkok Traffic Love Story (2009)
The second Thai movies I've seen. Classic romantic comedy; touching and funny. You could definitely pick this movie on a Saturday Night. The funny thing is, one of this movie's cameo is been said was one of Hello Stranger's character. Read my full review.

3 Days To Forever (2007)
Never seen a movie on this kind of angle of relatives. It's very honest and frank. It gives a different impression than any other movies. Read my full review.

Movie Report : March 2011

Already? It feels like time move fast now. Is it because of the cold weather or it looks like I'm feeling lazy? There's not much movies to look forward. Not in the theaters. Those who are in the same country with me knows what I am saying. Okay. This is the sum up of movies I have watched this month. There's a definite winner for this month, and that is the movie not from the year 2000. Carpe Diem, dear readers :)

127 Hours (2010)
Beautiful story, beautiful editing. Just excellent.

Morning Glory (2010)
Rachel McAdams being executive producer in a network. Light and entertaining.

Punch Drunk Love (2002)
I have never saw a love story like in this movie. It's different, odd but sweet. I now know why I never see this movie in the theaters here, but the movie has its way to describe love story in a different angle. Adam Sandler being a serious and stiff man is just different from his roles I've seen yet.

Movie Report : February 2011

So how is everybody's feeling about the Oscars result? Lead nominations is predictable for me, but I feel lucky enough to watch them before the Oscar. But it seems this month's posts are the winners from Academy Awards. The rest are in line from Valentine theme (many of them are not deliberately being picked to watch). Let's see :

Biutiful (2010)
I start the month by watching one of the nomination for Best Foreign Movie in this year's Golden Globe and Oscar. Javier Bardem undoubtedly give a great performance as a father, but some of the scenes I wish I did not see at all. Now I have never been a parent but I do know that it's not easy. Despite the sorrow and the darkness the movie's picturing, I have to say that being a single parent and having an illegal job is like playing with fire. In some ways kids 'force' you to be a good model, even if you don't feel like one. Never took someone's right to something they earn, or it will come back to you.

You Again (2010)

Seeing Kristen Bell and adding Jamie Lee Curtis here is not helping. The only part where it's worth watch is the part where Jamie Lee Curtis fights with Sigourney Weaver. This comedy movie has predictable ending. But truthfully, often all of us never forget the harsh teasing in high school. The movie gave a good point of letting go of the past, giving a rethink of how maybe there's ever unresolved problem behind in high school you should resolved.

Movie Report : January 2011

No movies go to waste. I decided to put it here on a quick resume. Not all movies have the potential to go here, but in monthly report I put all movies I've watched this month.

  • Black Swan (2010) : 4,5 Stars | Review
  • The American (2010) : 3 Stars
  • The Tourist (2010) : 3 Stars
  • The Truman Show (1998) : 2,5 Stars
  • Annie Hall (1977) : 3 Stars
  • Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) : 4 Stars | Review
  • Burlesque (2010) : 3,5 Stars
  • Life As We Know It (2010) : 3 Stars

I was a bit disappointed with The American, Annie Hall and Truman Show. You saw George Clooney and hoped the movie will be all stand out. It was actually had a great climax in the end. Annie Hall was a bit hard for me to watch in the first place, since it's rare to find. But I do felt I have to watch it again someday. Truman Show was not the movie I hoped to be, no further and deeper message other than a man being used for a television show. The movie felt too easy for a man being manipulated for a reality TV. Maybe things have been going fast in the broadcast world now and seeing it now is not the same as in 1998.

Burlesque wins on great performances, costume and songs. Treats your eyes and ears. You Haven't Seen The Last of Me by Cher is actually good. Congrats on winning them in Golden Globes. Last I watched Life As We Know It. It's actually have the same kind of recipe from typical romantic comedy but I was actually entertained by it. It surprisingly had some values of life lesson. But the most stand out movies was Black Swan and Happy-Go-Lucky.
